How to Install Window XP SP2

Updating an Existing OPKTools Distribution Share to Windows XP Service Pack 2:

  1. Obtain the correct language(s) of the service pack from the links above
  2. Make a temporary directory on your technician machine to hold the contents of the Windows XP CD. (NOTE This can be the original Windows XP OEM Product CD without Service Pack 1a, the original 2600 version or the SP1 or the SP1a version of Windows XP.)

For this example, we'll call the folder c:\xppro.

    md c:\xppro

  3. Copy the entire CD - not just the i386 directory - to this folder. In our example, we assume that the CD-ROM drive is drive D. From a command prompt, type:

    xcopy d:\*.* c:\xppro\*.* /e /v
  4. Navigate, while at the command prompt, to the folder where you copied the xpsp2.exe file and type the following command

    c:\temp\xpsp2.exe /integrate:c:\xppro

NOTE This will take some time for the integration process to conclude. Once it has finished, the C:\xppro folder will contain an integrated folder of Windows XP SP2

  5. Open the OEM Setup Manager tool and navigate to Tools - Manage Products
  6. Click the Button to Add Product and then navigate to C:\xppro where you have completed the integration in Step 4 above
  7. After adding the product files for XP Professional Service Pack 2 and XP Home Service Pack 2, your Setup Manager Tools - Manage Products page may look similar to

Repeat steps 3 through 7 for both operating system versions if your OPKTools structure includes Windows XP Professional and Windows XP Home Edition, simply by creating a folder called C:\xphome (or similar) for Windows XP Home Edition.

NOTE If your OPKTools folder includes multiple languages (or languages other than English), please repeat the process for the other languages.

  8. Lastly, you will want to delete the C:\xppro and C:\xphome folders (or whatever name you have used) where the integrated files have been copied.
