The Get Genuine Kit helps your customers install genuine Windows on their existing PCs. It provides a simple solution to help your customers get legal, deepen your customer relationship, and build your reputation as a trusted advisor.

The Problem: How to deliver genuine Windows to a PC when the customer has acquired non-genuine Windows software.
The Solution: The Get Genuine Kit for Windows Vista or Windows XP Professional. The kit is designed for use on fully assembled PCs with a previously installed counterfeit, pirated, or otherwise illegal or unlicensed copy of Windows software.
The best and most cost-effective way for customers to acquire Windows software is preinstalled on a new PC. However, many customers fall victim to non-genuine Windows software when they purchase PCs without an operating system preinstalled, or otherwise acquire counterfeit or non-genuine software. Here is how the Get Genuine Kit can help you:
- Acquire the Get Genuine Kit from a Microsoft Authorized OEM distributor. It is available for either Windows Vista Business or Windows XP Professional.
- Affix, or instruct the end user to affix, the enclosed Certificate of Authenticity (COA) label to the PC.

On the end user's computer system, you or the end user should do one of the following:
- Run the Windows Product Key Update Tool.
- Reinstall Windows XP.
Step 3 is required in order for the user to receive updates, upgrades, and support services.

The Get Genuine Kit—The kit is available from a Microsoft Authorized OEM Distributor in packs of 1 or 10:
- 1-license pack contains: Service Provider License Agreement, Supplemental End User License Terms, media (edge-to-edge hologram DVD), COA label, manual
- 10-license pack contains: Service Provider License Agreement, Supplemental End User License Terms, media (edge-to-edge hologram DVD), 10 COA labels, manual
- 10-packs—Packs must be used for a single customer and must not be divided among multiple customers.
- Bits—The bits are similar to full packaged product bits in that they will not wipe the hard drive clean upon installation.
- Product Support—Microsoft provides product support for this kit. This differs from OEM System Builder software, which the PC manufacturer supports.
- Non-Transferable License—The license is not transferable to another PC.
- Downgrade Rights—These rights are not available with the Get Genuine Kit.
- New vs. Existing PC Use—The Get Genuine Kit can never be used on a new PC. It can be used only to legalize Windows software on an existing PC.
